We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to giving rescued animals, primarily livestock and pocket pets, a second chance by providing them with a loving, permanent home in the beautiful foothills of Loveland, Colorado. Your support is vital to our mission—donations help us care for these animals, ensuring they receive the shelter, medical attention, and love they deserve. Do you have volunteer opportunities available?

Please contact us if you would like to volunteer. We plan on having volunteering opportunites at Backbone Sanctuary a few times per month.

What types of animals do you rescue and care for?

At our sanctuary, we welcome animals from diverse backgrounds. We are proud to be a loving home to alpaca, llama, goats, mini pigs, rabbits, chickens, dogs, cats, ferrets, chinchillas, reptiles, doves, pigeons, fish and arachnids. Some are rescued from shelters, while others come through our partner rescues or word-of-mouth surrenders. Occasionally, we also care for animals that have been abandoned on our property. Additionally, we provide temporary housing for pet owners facing housing challenges, ensuring their beloved animals remain safe and secure.  UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMADATE ADDITIONAL DOGS AND CATS AT THIS MOMENT.

Do you take in dogs and cats?

Not at this time. We focus on livestock animals and pocket pets.  If you need help with your dog or cat, please reach out and we can put you in contact with other rescues or help you find options.
